What Would Mom Wear?

There was a time I thought I would never have to ask myself this question.
I would put a look together with so much ease, grab my phone and keys, and head out the door. But somewhere between adding another kid, full time work, inheriting and managing properties, and building something so much greater than myself, getting dressed became something I was starting to let things fall where they may.
It became a question and something I needed to rediscover.
What would Mom wear? Not, I'm not asking what my mom wear. I am asking, what would the version of myself that is showing up as a mom, business owner, developer, and nonprofit professional- what would she wear?
As I begin to document the story of building a holistic real estate development practice and a thought leader, I have found myself thinking more and more about how I show up looking like I am living a well lived life.

Because where I am headed, I will meet investors, walking development sites, sit in rooms with intellectuals and curators, raising funds to support amazing causes, and be in community with social impact leaders while always being a mother. How I show up matters! I want to be prepared to walk in the room.
For as long as I can remember, women especially mothers, have felt guilty for caring about their appearance. If they didn't feel guilty, prioritizing their image and style always took a back seat. Mothers have also felt that caring about how you look is shallow and superficial.

I don't subscribe to that.
I believe there is power in looking like how you want to feel. I believe getting dressed shows a sign of self respect. I believe that well dressed women are taken more seriously.
With everyone thing in me, I believe that when women are building businesses and careers, creating wealth, and building legacies, we must look as powerful on the outside as we do on the inside.

When we feel good in what we are wearing, we carry ourselves differently. We introduce ourselves differently. Many of us do business differently. We show up as the CEO, leader, and bad mama jamma that we are.
So, I ask myself and I ask you, knowing where you want to go in life- what would mom wear? Does your wardrobe reflect where you are going? Is it a representation of the woman you are becoming? Those are the questions I ask myself every morning that I get dressed.
As I continue to build my businesses and nonprofit, I want to show more than just strategy and the back end. I want to talk about the entire journey and the fine details. The lessons, the wins, the process, and yes even the outfits.

A space where we can talk about entrepreneurship, real estate development, leadership, motherhood, wellness, personal style, and what it looks like to build something meaningful while showing up stylish and put together.
What are you wearing Mama?
