Dr. Nicole Garner Scott of Amount Financial

We’re doing work we love, work that inspires us, and we’re also pursuing our passions and making them priorities. In our latest Working Woman series, I chatted with PR Maven and financial Nicole Garner Scott about her life, work, motherhood and why money is an important tool. Dr. Nicole Garnet Scott, Atlanta native and now Memphian by choice, is the principal of a high profile PR Agency, The Garner Circle. Her work with brands such as Jaguar Luxury Brand, Adidas, and recently a varied list of Super Bowl clients isn’t her only passion. Let’s discover how Dr. Nicole Garner Scott’s current work is inspiring so many to live the way they want.

+ BRIEFLY INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO READERS.
I’m Nicole – wife, boy mom, serial entrepreneur, wealth educator , foodie (plant based) and magic maker. I have so many layers to my life. No two days looks the same.

+DO YOU HAVE ANY UNEXPECTED SOURCES OF FINANCIAL INSPIRATION, IF SO WHAT ARE THEY?
Well, I think we all have to first decipher the difference between financial inspiration and consumption inspiration. Financial inspiration is inspiration and examples that encourage and lead you to build a strong financial foundation in your life. I find true inspiration from people who look like me, that have come from nothing and not only built strong financial secure empires but have poured wealth back into their communities white creating generational wealth. I look to Oprah and Will Smith who have dominated the business side of their craft, or a Beyonce who has taken ownership over every money making aspect of her life.

+WHAT IS ONE QUESTION YOU WISH PEOPLE ASKED YOU MORE OF?

Why do you care so much about economic empowerment?

The reality is that companies and other ethnic groups earn billions of dollars every year from the missed opportunities of our communities. You often will catch me saying "you don't know, what you don't know" - meaning that there are key financial practices that are not being taught in our communities which also that into account cultural relevance. I am on a mission to close the gap and to tip the scale in our favor.

+ WHAT ARE 5 OF YOUR DAILY HABITS?

I use an app called Morning Routine to help me stay on the track in the morning. Having a new baby, some days I wake up not knowing what time it is or where I am lol! So the Morning Routine app, gets me back on track.

My top 5 daily habits are:

- Drink Water

- Feed the baby

- Juice my fruits and vegetables

- Affirmation / Meditations

- Check the news/ stock market

+  HOW DO YOU THINK WORKING IN A CREATIVE FINANCIAL INDUSTRY CONTRIBUTES TO SOME OF THE WORLD’S BIGGER CONVERSATIONS AND WHAT ROLE IS YOUR WORK PLAYING IN THIS SHIFT IN THINKING?

Because of my childhood, I understand having a scarcity mindset and how that can hold you back. If you find yourself living "paycheck to paycheck" then it's possible that you have also cultivated a scarcity mindset in relationship to money.  At some point in your life you may have experienced an event which now dictates your mindset concerning your finances.  Consequentially, you now operate from that mental space leaving you with less than desirable results.

You may find yourself afraid to spend money or spending most of your money the minute it hits your checking account.  While there are certainly emotional components associated with this, most important of all is the mindset you maintain around how you make and spend money. I pray that my work really helps to play a shift into this type of thinking and helps people to have a healthy mental relationship with their finances.

+ IF YOU COULD WORK WITH 3 PEOPLE IN THE FINANCE INDUSTRY WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY?

- Dr. Kezia M. Williams, Kezia M. Williams is the founder of The Black upStart - a national initiative to train African-American entrepreneurs. I absolutely love her passion for making sure African Americans do business correctly and have a plan in place to scale.
- Chris Browning of Popcorn Finance Podcast - I love his very transparent take on financial topics that have been considered taboo for so long
Tarra Jackson who runs the Madam Money blog. She consistently writes about money topics from a unique perspective.

+HOW DO YOU BALANCE CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND LIFE?

I learned early in life that there is no such thing as balance, lol. But I do try to create harmony in my life, making sure I breath energy into every facet of my life when it needs it most.

+ WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS A BRAND GOING INTO THE FUTURE?
I see myself becoming a trusted resource for modern personal finance and business-focused individuals. Producing editorial and video content, a podcast and newsletters, hosting events across the country, and also includes a foundation and releasing a series of books.
