Eating for Dosha Energy Types and Sauteed Kale and Mushroom with Eggs Recipe

Now that we are in full swing with refreshing ourselves for the New Year, It's time to put all of our goals and plans into action.  Most of us start a new year with the best of intentions, only to let some healthy habits fall to the wayside. For me, the pressure is on. I have entered into the middle of a new decade and I have noticed resistance in my diet and workout regimen. With researching, diets based off my energy type, I'll discuss further in a moment, I've realized the food I ate in my 20s no longer serve me any good, neither does pounding pavement running miles after miles. This weekend, I started a little science experiment on myself by cooking a new breakfast recipe, Sauteed Kale and Mushrooms with Eggs, based off my Vata Dosha energy type.

When I began my spiritual journey and getting to know myself, like really know myself, I traveled down a rabbit hole of information. I've always included Ayuverdic regimens into my lifestyle mainly with hair and essential oils. But this time,  I discovered something so very interesting in Ayuverdic practices that made so much more sense---DOSHA TYPES. Here's the very basic description, feel free to explore for yourself--- In Ayurveda, the five elements that are found in all living things—either, air, fire, water, and earth—are the building blocks of life. While this foundation unites all humans, the manifestation of those elements through the doshas is what gives rise to our differences. How the three doshas appear, and in what proportion, is what makes each of us unique.

There are 3 DOSHA TYPES, Pitta, Vata (that's my dosha type) and Kapha. Vata dosha energy types tend to have a lot of fire energy. While spontaneous and creative, we get anxiety and restless and distracted when there is imbalance in the elements of wind and space. Manifestation of illness occurs if our diet is not conducive to feeding and nurturing Vata energy. Balance, diet and lifestyle modifications are essential to maintaining an optimal vata energy. So, I researched all of the foods I should eat and how I should make changes to my diet according to my dosha type and realized I have all of those foods in my fridge and decided to cook them in a different way.  Here's my Sauteed Kale and Mushrooms with Eggs recipe for a great start for eating for my energy type.

2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
2 garlic cloves and 1/4 of an onion, chopped fine
white  mushrooms
2 large eggs
1 large bunch of kale, torn into pieces
1/2 lemon juice, squeezed fresh from half of a lemon
sea salt, to taste
freshly ground pepper, basil, and italian seasoning if you have it

1. Add olive oil or butter and garlic cloves over medium heat. Stir often for 1-2 minutes, then add onions and cook until transparent  add mushrooms and basil and italian seasoning.  Sauté, stirring occasionally, until mushrooms are browned and tender. Remove from heat and set aside.

2. Add kale and squeeze lemon juice, sauté for 3-4 minutes or until begins to soften a bit.

3. Make room in the pan and crack 2 eggs. Change heat to low and cook for 7-8 minutes or until whites are set and yolks are still soft. Add mushrooms back into the pan. Season with sea salt and freshly ground pepper. Serve and enjoy!!

After enjoying my breakfast, I felt so energized and full and ready to tackle my day. Normally, I may skip breakfast or grab something quick like fruit or cereal. Eating a balanced meal with warm kale and hearty vegetables like mushrooms made such a difference in how I felt all day. Vata energy tends to be  drying, cooling and light, many of the sites I researched suggested a diet that favor foods that are oily, warming, or heavy.

I had no idea the amount of resources available with diet and exercise suggestions based on Dosha energy types. I would highly suggest researching these by discovering your Dosha type here, reading more about Ayuverdic and Dosha , oh and I love this one too and here's a cookbook

I'd love to know if you tired the Sauteed Kale and Mushrooms with Egg Recipe and also what your dosha energy type is.
