A Casual Lunch at Tug's in Harbor Town Memphis

Last week after a walk on the Mississippi River, baby and I worked up a little appetite. It was right in the middle of lunch time downtown and honestly I wasn’t dressed for the corporate work crowd. I wanted to eat in restaurant that was as casual as I was dressed. Tug’s Casual Grill is one of a few restaurants in Harbor Town, a quant and cute neighborhood sitting on an island of the Mississippi. I decided to walk over from the river walk for a lunch pick me up. Tug’s is a very casual bar but yet still a place to meet up. I noticed that there was a work crowd who assumingly were beating the Main Street lunch crowd by driving over the river to Tug’s. The patio has a gorgeous view of the Mississippi River that was very calming to take in.

Often times when deciding on lunch, I don’t want big frills. Just a simple sandwich and chips or fries will do me pretty well. I ordered the Club Sandwich with ham, turkey, bacon, cheese and the regular fixins on wheat with fries. Nothing fancy yet it was very filling and delicious. My mom and aunt who joined me for lunch both ordered the turkey burger with sweet potato fries. I’m not really one for sweet potato fries. I love sweet potatoes—it’s just something about them fried. Maybe, it’s because I LOVE regular white potato fries— especially steak fries.

The food was good. Everything came out hot and fresh. The only thing and maybe it was this particular day, service was super slow. We were nice in asking about the food service. Of course, we all know the waiters wait on the kitchen. Unfortunately, we were told one of the cooks either left, like walked out, or was sick. Lunch crowds are tricky and demanding. You have to be ready to turn tables over and get food out fast. I mean most people only have one hour, maybe 45 minutes give or take the commute back to the office. Overall, I would definitely go back. I want to try the blackened cajun pasta that I obsessed over at someone else’s table. Plus, I heard they have a good brunch.
