DIY Rosehip Oil & Rosewater Facial Serum

I remember reading the Beauty at Every Age column of Harper’s Bazaar in my early 20s. You remember? Skin and beauty regimens were suggested based on your decade. The 20s were pretty easy. Take care of your skin, wash your face before going to bed, and apply sunscreen. The list started becoming much longer as you entered the following decades. Now that I am in my late 30s, I have my face wash, sunscreen, exfoliator, moisturizer, and now facial serum. I’ve realized the facial serum has become just as important as the other ingredients in my regimen. A facial serum is a dynamic source of nourishment and nutrition for your skin.

Serums penetrate deeply into the skin and address or even reverse the causes of aging and skin damage deep at the cellular level. Serums contain more antioxidants, nutrients and vitamins that work to repair the structure of skin cells, increasing skin radiance, smoothness and suppleness. Paired with a moisturizer at night, you will begin noticing drastic changes in your skin including an illuminant glow, smoothness and suppleness, the decrease of fine lines and wrinkles.

One of the wonders I’ve seen in facial serums is a magical ingredient used by women of Chile for years—rosehip oil. Rosehip oil has a plethora of amazing benefits like tightening skin, moisturizing, treating wrinkles, brightening and evening out skin tone. Just a little background, rosehip oil is harvested from the seeds of rose bushes, and is full of vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that does some pretty awesome things for your face. Now pair rosehip oil with rosewater, you have a fragrant powerhouse of a facial night serum. Rosewater has immense anti inflammatory properties that reduce redness, get rid of scars and treat eczema and acne. What I also love is it helps moisturize and revitalize the skin giving you a youthful glow.

Here is what you’ll need

1 tablespoon almond or jojoba oil

Combine all of the ingredients in a small bottle and shake well to combine. If you’d like a more fragrant serum, add more rosewater or you can even add a few more drops of ylang ylang essential oil.

Apply a dime size of serum over your entire face and neck Gently press on with your fingertips and allow it to absorb into the skin for a few minutes before applying a moisturizer.

Shake well before each use, and apply this super moisturizing serum on your face at night after cleansing and first thing in the morning. Apply about a dime size of serum with two fingers and massage thoroughly into the skin. More serum does not equal more benefit. Your skin can only absorb a certain amount, and when a serum is packed with great actives, you don’t need large amounts.

If you have naturally oily skin, use a facial serum alone or under a moisturizer for normal to dry skin to hydrate the skin more. We should all know by now that moister skin retains product better. You should always apply your serum twice a day, directly to your skin after cleansing. In the morning apply your facial serum  before your moisturizer, at night time apply the serum before your night cream or moisturizer.
