Review : KiwiCo Crate Review
I grew up in the 80s--a time when summer time fun wasn't taking trips, scheduled play dates, and recording on musica.ly to share with your friends over Facetime. We played outside on bikes, competed in Jack's competitions, double dutch, and built mansions out of sand, sticks, and whatever was available in nature. My generation Z only child will never know how much fun her mommy and Uncle Phil really had.
Each generation I feel is obligated to tell those stories and instill in children the beauty of imagination, creativity, and unplugging. Companies and mothers are seeing the value of not passing the iphone or some other brain zapping electronic to children in times of boredom. I was so giddy when we first heard of KiwiCo. They got it and Amira's dad and I forever.
KiwiCo's goal is to inspire kids to see themselves as scientists, artists, creators, and makers. The company offers crates for children 24-36 months, 3-4 years of age, 5-8 years of age, and either “doodle” or “tinker” crates for kids 9-16+. Amira has been subscribed to the Doodle Crate for almost a year now. Here's our review and a peak inside her project....
Each month, we receive an email letting us know her KiwiCo box is on the way. How thoughtful! Each crate comes with all materials and instructions to get those creative juices folowing. I really love that because you don't have to run to a craft store to pick up any additional supplies. Her recent crate was a Doodle Mask that involved crafting an animal of her choice. What we both really love is the idea of her drifting off creatively if she'd like.
I'll be very honest in my parenting with Amira, I am a very independent thinker kind of mom. Each time she receives a box, I try to teach her to follow the inspirations sheet and its instructions step by step, use the video instructions given, and create what she wants. It's important for me not to work on the project with her step by step because then it's my project. I love that KiwiCo makes it a very simple concept for children to understand and work independently. Let me double back, I help her when she needs it lol.
The KiwiCo crates are only $19.95 per month delivered right to your doorsteps. There is no time wasted thinking of activities to keep them busy or driving all over town for craft supplies. What we love as well are the newsletter delivered with other activities for your kids to try and the addtional crate options. I think now that Amira is going to fourth grade, I will add on other crates like the Geography and STEM crates.
