#SHOWYOURWORK : Makale's Prom
Now that my prom season has calmed down, I officially only have one more prom baby left, I can share my designs and stories with you all. Every one of my garments have special significance to me. They have either taught me a valuable lesson, brought out somethings in myself that I never knew existed or made me fall in love with my work and growth. The idea of #showyourwork is not to boast but symbolic and evidence of how far I have come and where I am going as well. So, let me share Makale's prom look and story with you all....
When Makale came into the studio, of course, she had tons of inspiration pictures with prom looks she loved. As a designer and stylist, I went through all of the looks and chose the look I would love to design based on what fit her personality, what would most flatter her and what would create her dream prom memories. We both made a decision that we absolutely loved!!!
I thought Yas... something so different for prom. Seperates!!!!! A top and a skirt.. all white... and totally within my design aesthetic. I was so happy to begin only because I wanted to see how everything would come out. You all know recreations are my favorite. After sourcing fabric mainly the feathers and figuring out design concepts and solutions and working through a little carpal tunnel.. I NAILED IT & SHE LOVED IT.
I loved every single second of making Makale's prom look. It was heartwarming watching her prepare for one of her most memorable evenings. Now on to the story behind our connection and our beautiful story....
SO! You said that hand, yes, taking the photo for the Gram lol. That's Makale's dad. THE Mr. Michael McGhee!! My mentor! HE reintroduced me to my love of reading. HE quizzes me on business, logic, provokes thought for me to PUSH myself to further limits. Every single time I see him, He says "Style Junkie or Andrea" tell me something and it follows with the most difficult question but quess what I ALWAYS come up with the right answer.
I felt honored that he blessed me with the opportunity to make his daughter's prom look. It was only right that I repaid him with designing his baby girl's prom dress with excellence because he pushes me towards it EVERY time I encounter him.
